Columbia Takes on Korea's Best at Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - Last week, five Columbia student-athletes had the opportunity to compete with the best Korean University fencers at the 2012 Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational. All Columbia fencers had solid results in a competitive field.

Beyond the competition, the Columbia fencers and head coach Michael Aufrichtig enjoyed the opportunity to have a full day tour of Seoul, enjoy delicious Korean food and bond with other fencers from the United States and Korea. 

In men's epee, junior Alen Hadzic finished second among 25 fencers in the competition. Hadzic continued his strong calendar by finishing as the best United States fencer in the weapon.

In women's epee, senior Lydia Kopecky placed fifth among 23 fencers. Kopecky was the third best U.S. finisher in her weapon.
 
Junior Mel Rodriguez overcame a difficult Korean contingent to finish second among all U.S. fencers in men's sabre, while 2012 graduate Sammy Roberts was the third best U.S. finisher in women's sabre.
 
In women's foil, senior D'Meca Homer was the second best U.S. finisher and placed ninth among all entrants in the field.
