“To be one of the two picked by the nominating committee is very humbling,” Aufrichtig said. “I appreciate they feel I fit well in that role and I hope to have the opportunity to help USA Fencing.”
Decisions were based on a number of factors, including the resources an applicant could bring to the sport (both financial and tangible skills such as business development, marketing or fundraising experience etc.); whether a candidate demonstrated a clear understanding of the role of the board of directors; and candidates’ past board experience and/or applicable experiences that demonstrated understanding by the applicant of how an individual would need to operate effectively in the board structure. In addition, the nominating committee took into account the balance of talents and skills already on the board and areas in which the board has room to grow.
The Lions will take this week off from NCAA competition, but 23 members of the squad will participate at the North American Cup in Virginia Beach this weekend. Columbia will return to team action next weekend at the NYU Invitational.
