NEW YORK – The Columbia field hockey team fell to No. 12 Albany, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Baker Athletics Complex. The Lions (5-7) return to Ivy League action on Friday, Oct. 18 when they welcome Penn to the Baker Athletics Complex. Game-time is slated for 6 p.m.

The Great Danes (12-2) opened the scoring just over three minutes in when Fiori Van Rijswijk came up with a loose ball in front of the goal and snuck it past goalkeeper Kimberly Pianucci. Daphne Voormolen extended the lead in the 13th minute when she took a long feed from Corrine McConville and drove hard down the right side and made it 2-0.

Kelly Bonner and Van Rijswijk tacked on two more scores later in the half to give Albany a 4-0 cushion.

Columbia saw more action in the offensive zone in the second half, but the Great Danes used their size and speed to bottle up passing lanes and break up any potential scoring chances to keep the Lions off the scoreboard.

Bonner and Liza Morgan capped the scoring with a pair of goals in the final three minutes of regulation.

Albany goalkeeper Maxi Primus picked up the shutout despite not making a save in the game.

Pianucci made four saves, while Marlee Silverstein played the second half and made three stops.
