Field Hockey Travels to Yale for Ivy League Matchup
NEW YORK - The Columbia field hockey team will travel to New Haven, Conn. on Saturday, October 30 for an important Ivy League matchup against Yale. The opening whistle is slated for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lions (9-6, 2-3 Ivy League) are coming off a huge 5-2 win over Ivy League rival Dartmouth on Sunday, October 24. The game, which was the last at home for the team's six seniors, was a memorable one. In front of a lively group of alumni, family and friends, Columbia dominated the Big Green in an offensive outburst. Gabby Kozlowski scored a career-high four goals and assisted on the other by Carson Christus. Christie O'Hara made nine saves in goal, picking up her ninth win of the season.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Kozlowski's huge four-goal effort brought her season total to 15 with two games remaining. Her 15 goals ties the single-season record set by Nikki Campbell in 2000. Campbell was in attendance at the Dartmouth game after being inducted into the Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2010 on Friday, October 22.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For her efforts against Rutgers and Dartmouth last week, Kozlowski was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, conference officials announced on October 26. This was the first Player of the Week honors for the sophomore, who was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week last season. Kozlowski was the first Columbia player to earn Player of the Week honors since September 16, 2008, when Caitlin Mullins earned the distinction.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale features a well-balanced attacking unit, as eight different players have registered at least 10 points this season. The Bulldogs are 10-5 overall in 2010 and 4-1 in Ivy League action, tied for second place in the conference.
Erica Borgo leads the team with 19 points (6 goals, 7 assists) and Dinah Landshut ranks second with 18 points including a team-high 14 assists. Katie Bolling has seen the most time in goal this season, and sports a 2.03 goals against average.
Columbia will close out the 2010 season next Saturday, Nov. 6 when it travels to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
