NEW YORK – Caroline Nichols, a member of Columbia field hockey’s coaching staff the past two seasons, claimed fourth place with Team USA at the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands, which wrapped up on Saturday.

Team USA won Group B after a 4-2 win over South Africia, where Nichols netted a penalty stroke goal in the 35th minute. However, the U.S., lost a heartbreaker to Australia in penalty strokes in the semifinals and fell to Argentina, 2-1, in the bronze medal game.

Nichols started all seven games of the tournament in the backfield and finished with two goals. The fourth place finish was the best World Cup result for Team USA since they claimed bronze in 1994.
