NEW YORK – The Columbia heavyweight rowing team will begin its northern racing season this spring against Rutgers for the Collins Cup.  The first race on Saturday, March 26 is set for 2:20 p.m. on the Raritan River.

The Lions will feature some new faces among the varsity boats after the graduation of some key seniors, but there are a number of veterans returning to head coach Mike Zimmer's lineup.  Among them are seniors Forrest Anderson, Matt Celano and Sebastian Kirwan, each of whom is slated to row with the first varsity on Saturday.

"We graduated a group of guys in 2010 who won some very big races for Columbia," Zimmer told Row2K.com earlier this year. "Without them this 2011 team is unproven, but the strongest and deepest that we have had at Columbia. We are taking a total program approach and making sure that everyone is contributing at every level."

The complete schedule of Saturday's races follows:

2:20 p.m.   Freshmen
2:40 p.m. Second Varsity Eight
3 p.m. First Varsity Eight
