NEW YORK – The Columbia men’s heavyweight rowing team will compete for the second time this spring on Saturday, March 30, when it host Rutgers in the Collins Cup. Start time on the Harlem River is slated for 12:40 p.m.

The Lions’ varsity eights are coming off an impressive showing at the Governor’s Cup in Fellsmere, Fla. last weekend, posting fourwins in various events. The first, second and third varsity eights all earned victories on Canal 54.

The varsity eight rowed to a 5.3 second win over host Florida Tech, while downing Jacksonville by just over nine seconds in its second race of the regatta. The second varsity eight rowed to a dominant 20 second win over Jacksonville, while the third varsity eight produced an equally impressive showing in its race over Florida Tech.

Saturday’s regatta will be the first competition for the Scarlet Knights this spring.

The Collins Cup was held on the Raritan River last season, with Columbia coming away victorious on an extremely windy day.
