Heavyweights Look to Bounce Back Against Penn, Yale for Blackwell Cup

NEW YORK – The Columbia heavyweight rowing squad will return to action this Saturday, April 19 against No. 9 Penn and No. 5 Yale for the Blackwell Cup in New Haven, Conn.

COLUMBIA’S STATUS
The Lions suffered its first defeat of the year, finishing third to the Quakers and No. 4 Princeton in the Childs Cup regatta on April 12. However, Columbia only trailed Penn by just 0.8 seconds and will look for redemption on the Housatonic River this weekend.

PENN’S STATUS
The Quakers are also looking to rebound after starting the spring 3-0 and coming in second in their first home race of the year.

YALE’S STATUS
The Bulldogs have raced just twice this spring, but have won each varsity eight race thus far. Last week, Yale retained the Olympic Axe for the 10th straight season, topping Dartmouth by 12 seconds.

SETTING THE SCENE
Columbia kept up with Yale for the first 1,500 meters last season before the Bulldogs pulled away for the victory. The Lions placed in second, pulling in two seconds ahead of Penn.
