DIRECTIONS TO OVERPECK PARK

NEW YORK – It will be another busy weekend of competitive racing for the Columbia lightweights, who face off against three more top-10 foes at Overpeck Park. On Saturday, the No. 2 Lions will take on top-ranked Cornell and No. 7 MIT with the Geiger Cup on the line. Columbia also will take on No. 9 Dartmouth on Sunday for the Subin Cup.

COLUMBIA’S STATUS
The Lions gave No. 1 Yale a run for its money, but came up just short on the Housatonic last weekend. Columbia looked to be equal with the Bulldogs in open water, however, Yale’s experience in handling the turns of its home course proved to be the difference in the varsity eight race.

CORNELL’S STATUS
The Big Red faced off against Yale a day after the Lions and saw better results in Derby. Cornell swept the Bulldogs in four races, including a nearly four second victory in the varsity eight race to improve to 3-0 on the year.

MIT’S STATUS
The Engineers varsity eights are in search of their first win since the season opener against Boston College on Mar. 29. MIT hosted the Biglin Bowl on the Charles River, where they finished second to Harvard and ahead of Dartmouth.

A LOOK BACK – 2013 GEIGER CUP
The original race for the Geiger Cup was scheduled for April 20 of last year, but due to the Boston Marathon tragedy, MIT did not make the trip to Cornell. The teams did gather at the Eastern Sprints and it was decided the fastest boat there would claim the trophy. Columbia edged out Cornell in the grand final at the sprints to come home with the hardware.

SATURDAY’S GEIGER CUP SCHEDULE OF RACES
9 a.m. – Fourth Varsity Four (Cornell, Columbia)

9:20 a.m. – Third Varsity Eight
9:40 a.m. – Second Varsity Eight
10 a.m. – Varsity Eight

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green finished third at the Biglin Bowl and their varsity eights posted a win against Delaware earlier this spring.

A LOOK BACK – 2013 SUBIN CUP
Columbia took back the trophy after a three-year drought. The Lions used a patient strategy, waiting for Dartmouth to make its move, and outsprinted the Big Green for a three-second victory.

SUNDAY’S SUBIN CUP SCHEDULE OF RACES
8:30 a.m. – Varsity Eight

8:50 a.m. – Second Varsity Eight
9:10 a.m. – Third Varsity Eight
9:30 a.m. – Varsity Four
