NEW YORK – The Columbia lightweight rowing team will begin its northern racing season on Saturday, April 2 at 9 a.m. when it will race in the Fosburgh Cup, an annual cup race hosted by Princeton which also includes Georgetown.  The lightweights will then race against Delaware in the afternoon, at 4 p.m., also on Princeton's Lake Carnegie.

Returning from two training trips to Florida in January and March, which "allows our guys to eliminate everything else from their lives - except maybe some "Jersey Shore" viewing," according to head coach Scott Alwin.  On its recent trip to Melbourne, Fla. over spring break, the Lions swept the Jacksonville heavyweights and had a narrow loss to the Florida Tech heavyweights.

Now, Columbia returns north to square off against Princeton, Georgetown and Delaware in one day.  Relying on its attitude, the team's biggest strength, Alwin notes, the squad "knows that focusing on the few basic ingredients required for fast rowing will serve them well."

Live audio of the race will be broadcast online.  With Dave Mulhern '10 calling all the action, fans can also call in and listen by dialing 202-481-6883.
