NEW YORK - Columbia lightweight rowing's 2011-12 schedule is set and Columbia will compete in a pair of home regattas in the spring of 2012, following its standard, but grueling fall slate.
While select Columbia oarsmen will compete at the GMS Challenge in September, the first full competition of the fall season will be at the Head of the Passaic in nearby Rutherford, N.J. on Sunday, October 16.
The Head of the Charles Regatta follows on October 23, and the Princeton Chase on October 30 closes out the varsity schedule for the fall. Columbia's freshman eight will compete in the Rutgers Fall Classic a week later on November 6.
The spring racing campaign gets underway on Saturday, March 17 against Florida Tech during Columbia's annual spring break trip to the warmer climate of Palm Bay, Fla. Columbia's first northern race will be against Princeton and Georgetown on March 31 at Princeton.
Columbia's first home race will be on Saturday, April 7 against Navy on the shores of Orchard Beach in Pelham. A week later, Columbia will host Yale and Penn at Orchard Beach.
The Lions travel to Boston on April 21 to meet MIT and Cornell and will head to Dartmouth a day later, April 22, to compete for the annual Subin Cup.
The Eastern Sprints are scheduled for May 20 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. and the IRA Regatta will be on June 2 in Mercer, N.J.
