Women's Rowing to Face Brown, Cornell for Dunn Bowl Saturday
NEW YORK - Columbia women’s rowing looks to continue their winning ways as the 16th-ranked Lions head north to contest the Dunn Bowl with Brown and Cornell on Providence’s Seekonk River on Saturday, April 27.
Columbia enters the Dunn Bowl carryingjust one defeat from their entire spring slate, to No. 7 Princeton, and has already recorded an upset of No. 11 Yale to win the Connell Cup for the first time in program history. Last weekend, the Lions topped Bucknell by almost 20 seconds in the varsity eights to record their fourth first-place race of the season.
Last year’s winner, No. 10 Brown, will be racing on their home course after a long hiatus and have established themselves as one of the most dangerous crews in the nation. They have already defeated eighth-ranked Radcliffe, and fell to fourth-ranked Ohio State by only 0.7 seconds in Princeton. Their last time out, the Bears swept Rhode Island in all four races, winning the varsity eight by eleven seconds.
No. 19 Cornell comes into this race after racing some of the best crews in the South at the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell. The Big Red came in third, falling to Louisville and the host Tigers, but defeating fellow top-20 team Duke. In their last cup race the Cornell women could not keep up with Radcliffe and Princeton, finishing well out of the running in third in the Class of ’75 Cup.
