NEW YORK – After an idle weekend, the Columbia women’s rowing team is gearing up for the Ivy League Championships on Sunday, May 19 on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.

The Lions’ varsity eights are coming off back-to-back wins over Brown – at the Dunn Bowl on April 27 and the EAWRC Sprints Regatta on May 5. Columbia’s top boat holds a 5-1 record, including four-straight victories, this spring and check in at No. 15 in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll.

Princeton and defending champion Harvard come into the regatta as the favorites as both crews are listed in the top-10 of the latest national poll. The Lions’ lone varsity eight defeat came to the Tigers on April 6, but Columbia has been on a tear ever since.

The Ivy League champion in women’s rowing is determined by the fastest boat in the first varsity eight grand final. The Ivy League championship was determined at the Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints from 1974 to 2011.
