Women's Rowing Kicks Off Cup Season vs. Yale and Penn for the Connell Cup

NEW YORK - Columbia will begin the northern part of its spring racing season on Saturday, March 26 against Yale and Penn for the Connell Cup on the Housatonic River in Derby, Conn.  Yale's varsity eight is the defending national champion, and Penn is the third team receiving votes in the preseason College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing National Top 20 poll, while Columbia is the fifth team receiving votes.

"In the Ivy League, we expect it will be a total dogfight at every level," head coach Melanie Onufrieff said.  "Our goals are to be ready to go to those battles with them, and be ready to put ourselves into a position where we can be successful and get better."

The Connell Cup will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  A full schedule of events follows:

9 a.m.   Third Varsity 8+
9:20 Varsity 4+ A
9:40 Second Varsity 8+
10:00 Varsity 8+
10:20

Here are directions to the Yale boathouse from the south:

Take I-95 North into Connecticut to

Exit for Route 8 North (at Bridgeport) to

Exit for Route 34 West (Main Street/Derby).

Go left at end of ramp onto Rt. 34 through town.

Yale boathouse is on the left about one mile out of town.
