Women's Rowing Earns Highest Ranking Ever in Latest Coaches Poll
NEW YORK - Following a strong regatta against Princeton, Radcliffe and Cornell in which the Columbia varsity eight defeated Radcliffe and Cornell, Columbia women's rowing is ranked 16th in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing Coaches Poll.
It is the highest ranking in the history of the Columbia women's program, dating back to the start of weekly polls in the 2003 season. Columbia was ranked 18th in the coaches' poll late in the 2010 campaign.
"It's exciting to finally crack the top 16, and it is a testament to how hard these women have worked all year," head coach Scott Ramsey said.
"We are not a deep squad in terms of numbers, so we focus on maximizing every individual to the utmost of their ability to be competitive enough to win. Still, they are not satisfied with the ranking and are hungry to keep moving forward and to get faster individually and as a team."
Next up for Columbia is the Dunn Bowl Regatta this Saturday, April 21 with Cornell and Brown in Ithaca, N.Y. The first race is tentatively set to begin at 9 a.m.
