NEW YORK – The Columbia women’s rowing team will begin a busy spring season this Saturday, traveling to Fellsmere, Fla. to compete in the Governor’s Cup hosted by Florida Tech on Canal 54.

9 a.m. – Women V8 – FIT, Columbia, Barry
9:10 a.m. – Women’s V4 – Barry, Columbia, FIT
9:20 am. – WF/N4 – FIT, Columbia

Columbia competed just twice in the fall, at the Head of the Charles in Boston and the Princeton Chase. On the Charles River, Columbia rowed to a 17th-place showing (out of 39) in the Women’s Championship Eights.

The next week at the Princeton Chase, Columbia had seven boats in action. Columbia’s varsity eight ‘A’ boat captured 15th (out of 46) with a time of 15:25.796 on Lake Carnegie. The Lions’ top varsity four boat placed 16th (out of 29) with a time of 17:54.001.

The Governor’s Cup is the first of five regular season regattas for the women’s team before postseason action begins at the EAWRC Women’s Sprints on May 4 in Pennsauken, N.J. The Lions will face Ivy League competition for the first time next weekend when it races in the Connell Cup in Derby, Conn. against Penn and Yale on Saturday, March 29.
