IVY LEAGUE CHAMP! DeZwirek Captures Title As Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Third At Ivy League Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -For the third consecutive year, the Columbia men's swimming and diving team finished third at the Ivy League Championships. With a tally of 1107.5 points, the Lions finished behind Harvard and champions Princeton to cap the 2012 season.

First-year Jeremie DeZwirek won the second Ivy League title of the Championships for Columbia, winning the 200 yard backstroke with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:44.66. DeZwirek is a part of a first-year class that has performed well this season. Another first-year, Omar Arafa, continued a strong showing in the final day of the meet, with a second-place finish in the championship final of the 100 yard free. He hit the wall with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 43.81. First-year Dominik Koll added a sixth-place finish in the event with a time of 44.47.

The Lions posted good performances in the 200 yard breaststroke, led by a fifth-place finish in the championship final from senior Robert Eyckmans. Eyckmans hit the wall with an NCAA 'B" cut time of 1:59.26. Close behind was Eric Traub, who took a seventh-place finish with a time of 2:00.09. First-year Andrew Wood followed with a second-place time of 2:03.51 in the 'B' final.

The first-year class continued to make their presence felt in the Ivy League in the 200 yard butterfly. David Jakl posted a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:46.62 on his way to a fourth-place finish in the championship final. Senior Bruno Esquen performed well with a second-place finish in the 'B' final, with a time of 1:48.58.

Junior Jason Collazo earned points in the 1 meter diving event for Columbia. Collazo tallied 313.80 points to take first place in the 'B' finals. The Lions wrapped the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Arafa, first-year Daniel Gosek, Koll, and junior John Wright posted an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:55.75 to tie for second place with Princeton in the event.
