Men's Swimming and Diving To Face Navy

NEW YORK - The Columbia men's swimming and diving team hits the road to take on the Midshipmen of Navy in Annapolis, Md. on Friday, Feb.3 at 2 p.m. The Lions will look to extend their six meet win streak as they face a tough 9-1 Navy team. Columbia will head into the meet looking to avenge last season's 121-179 loss.  

Despite the loss, Columbia had a bright spot in the 200 free, as former swimmer Hyun Lee broke his own Uris Pool set record in the event. In 2008, he went 1:38.56, but he bested that time with a swim nearly a full second faster at 1:37.64.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lions improve to 6-2 on the year and 2-2 in the Ivy League with wins over Boston University and Brown in a double dual tri-meet in Boston, Mass. The Lions defeated the Terriers 196-102 and with a 190.5-106.5 victory over Brown behind 10 first place finishes.

Junior Jason Collazo led the Lions winning both diving events to start the meet. Collazo took the 1-meter diving event with 308.15 points and the 3-meter diving event with 334.95 points.

The squad of first-year Omar Arafa, senior Bruno Esquen, junior John Wright, and first-year Stanley Wong added a first place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 18.58. Arafa also went on to take first place in the 100 yard freestyle finishing with a time of 43.58.

SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN

Navy will enter the meet 9-1 following a 155-145 win over Penn State. The team's sole loss this season came at the hands of Ivy League opponent Princeton this season falling 152.5-147.5.

UP NEXT

On Friday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. Columbia will continue to Princeton, N.J. looking for another Ivy League win, taking on Princeton.
