Providence, R.I. - The Columbia men's swimming and diving team kicked off the start of the 2013 Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championships this morning in Brown's Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Lions are right behind second place Princeton with 301 points for third place after the first day of action. Harvard leads the way through the first six events with 467 points.

Dominik Koll started the day with a preliminary first place time of 4:21.10 in the 500 freestyle. He returned in the championship finals to grab an overall runner-up finish with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:20.96. The Lions also picked up a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet Daniel Gosek, Omar Arafa, John Wright and Philipp Gaissert combined for a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:18.08.

Gosek and Wright went on to have solid showings in the 50 freestyle as well. After posting a fifth place prelims time of 20.14, Gosek placed fifth overall with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 20.07. Wright finished close behind with a sixth place NCAA 'B' cut time of 20.16. Gaissert also added points with a third place finish in the 'B' finals of the 50 free with a career-best time of 20.27.

On the boards, Micah Rembrandt performed well under pressure with a runner-up finish in the 'B' finals. The sophomore tallied 304.17 points to finish tenth overall in the event.

The second day will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. with preliminaries, and then conclude with finals sessions at 6 p.m. Click the link above to view the full schedule of events.

Adult ticket prices are set for $30 event passes, $4 one-day prelim tickets and $6 one-night finals tickets. Children (under 12) and student prices are $1 one-day prelims and $3 one-night finals tickets.
