Day Three: Lions Finish Third With Record High Total Points

PRINCETON, N.J. - On Saturday March 9, the Columbia men's swimming and diving team capped the season with final day of action in the 2013 Ivy League Championships. For the fourth consecutive year, the Lions finished third with a tally of 1,135 points, the most in school history. Harvard finished second with 1,446 points and Princeton took the Ivy League crown with 1,514 points.

Columbia maintained a third place hold through the championships with school record performances and a number of career best performances. The first day of competition was highlighted by a program record time in the 200 freestyle relay. Day two saw four pool records and several NCAA 'B' cut times.

The Lions continued with solid performances in the final day of the championships. David Jakl clocked in at a new program NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:44.14 in the200 butterfly and claim a runner-up finals finish. Jakl was pushed by teammate Kevin Quinn who placed third in the event with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:44.78.

John Wright also posted a good performance in the 100 freestyle on Saturday. The senior earned a championship finals appearance with a career best NCAA 'B' cut time of 44.14 in the preliminary heat. He went on to place sixth overall with a finals time of 44.25.

The 200 backstroke saw career best times from Jakl and Michael Fox-Moles. Fox-Moles won the 'B' finals heat with a time of 1:46.85. Not too far behind was Jakl in 11th place with a time of 1:47.06. Senior Jason Collazo added points for the Lions in the three-meter dive with an eight place finish at 267.30. Micah Rembrandt claimed an 11th place overall finish in the event with 318.70 points.

The Lions wrapped the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Koll, Omar Arafa, Philipp Gaissert, and Wright combined an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:55.90.
