Powell Qualifies for Consolation Finals at NCAA National Championships
NEW YORK - Columbia men's swimming senior Adam Powell qualified for the consolation finals in the 50 freestyle at the 2011 NCAA National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. Thursday morning, setting a new Columbia program record along the way.
Powell, who took part in the preliminaries of the 50 free this morning, swam the event in a lifetime-best 19.55 seconds, which is the 14th fastest time of the day, and enough to qualify him for tonight's consolation finals. As one of the eight swimmers in the consolation finals, Powell will earn Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Thursday's finals begin at 7 p.m., with three events slated to compete before the 50 freestyle. Complete results from the morning's sessions, along with live results for tonight's finals are available here.
