NEW YORK – Columbia men’s swimming senior Adam Powell concluded his Columbia career Saturday, with the preliminaries of the 100 freestyle at the 2011 NCAA National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn.
After an outstanding showing in the 50 free on Thursday, Powell competed in the preliminaries of the 100 free Saturday afternoon. The senior came in with a final time of 43.91 seconds, which ranked him 37th in the field of 58 swimmers.
Powell, who will earn Honorable Mention All-America honors for his performance in the 50, finishes his career as one of the most decorated swimmers in Columbia history. A multiple school record holder, Powell capped his four year career with three titles at the 2011 Ivy League Championships (50 free, 100 free and 400 free relay), along with the Career High Point Scorer Award. He also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials earlier in the 50 free.
