Men's Swimming & Diving Head To Bucknell

NEW YORK - The Columbia men's swimming and diving team will begin 2012 calendar year on the road Sunday, Jan. 15 as they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell at 1 p.m. Last season, the Lions defeated the Bison 37-104 in the first meet of the 2011 calendar year. The squad of Hyun Lee, John Wright, Daniel Tan, and Adam Powell set the pool record in the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:22.52, to highlight the meet.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lions will look to bounce back after suffering a home loss to league leading Harvard. First-year Jeremie DeZwirek highlighted the Lions with a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:48.19.

Junior Jason Collazo sparked the team with a strong showing in the 3m and 1m diving events. He placed second in both events with 333.75 points in the 3m diving event and 329.25 points in the 1m diving event.

Harvard was led by first-year Chuck Katis, who set three new Uris Pool records. Katis set the record in the men's 100 breaststroke, with a time of 55.18.The previous record was held by Leroy Kim of Princeton, set in 1993 at 56:42. Katis went on to claim pool records in the men's 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:00.76, and in the men's 200 individual medley with a time of 1:48.56.

SCOUTING THE BISON

The Bison will host Columbia in its first back-to-back meet of the season. Bucknell will enter the weekend at 5-1, getting its first win of the 2012 calendar year defeating Colgate.

UP NEXT

On Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. the Lions will host its homecoming meet taking on Cornell.
