Homecoming: Men's Swimming and Diving Hosts Cornell

NEW YORK - The Columbia men's swimming and diving team will celebrate Homecoming as they play host to Ivy League foe Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Uris Pool at 3 p.m. The Lions will look to defeat the Big Red for the first time since their 165.5-134.5 win in the 2003-04 season.  The teams' last meeting resulted in a 136-164 loss in which former Columbia swimmer Adam Powell posted a Cornell pool record in the 100 free.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lions now stand at 3-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Ivy League with a win over the Bison of Bucknell on Sunday, Jan. 15. The 129.5-111.5 victory highlighted strong showings from Columbia first-year swimmers including a team total of six first place finish.

Sophomore Harry Stephenson took a first place finish in the men's 1000 yard freestyle along with first-year Stanley Wong in the men's 50 yard freestyle with a tying time of 20.99 with fellow teammate Alex Ngan.

First-year David Jakl went on to take first place in the men's 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.01 and Ngan followed with a win in the men's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.67.

Newcomer Dominik Koll picked up a win in his first meet as a Lion in the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:35.65. First-year Micah Rembrandt gave Columbia its sixth victory of the meet with a win in the men's 3-meter diving event with 271.85 points.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED

Cornell will enter Uris Pool following its first win of the season, a defeat of Colgate. The Big Red now stand at 1-5 on the year and 0-5 in the Ivy League after a 197.5-99.5 road win over the Raiders.
