Men's Swimming and Diving Takes On Boston and Brown On The Road

NEW YORK-The Columbia men's swimming and diving team will look to capture four consecutive wins as they head to Boston, Mass. on Saturday, Jan. 28 to face Boston University and Ivy League Brown in a dual tri-meet at 4:30 p.m. The Lions will look to hand the Terriers their first lost of the 2012 calendar year. Columbia will look to add another Ivy League facing Brown. The last meeting for these two teams resulted in a Columbia win 162-136.

LAST TIME OUT

Columbia defeated Cornell for the first time since 2003 in the team's latest 205.5-92.5 victory. The Lions improve to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in Ivy League play with the win. Columbia showed well in its homecoming victory with 14 first place finishes with the squad of first-year Omar Arafa, first-year, Stanley Wong, senior Bruno Esquen, and junior John Wright setting the tone for the Lions winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.55.

In his first home meet as a Lion, newcomer Dominik Koll won his first event in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.48. Koll would add a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, with a time of 46.67 for a strong home debut.

First-year David Jakl also posted a good showing by first winning the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.85. He followed his performance in the 200 yard backstroke with a first place finish with a time of 1:54.33.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS

Saturday's meet for the 4-1 Boston Terriers will be the team's first competition since the US Championships in December 2011. The American East Conference leading Boston will look to bounce back following a loss to #18 Texas A&M in a tri-meet with Fordham.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

Brown will look to get their first win of the season taking on the Lions. The Bears stand at 0-4 on the year and 0-3 in the Ivy League. Their latest defeated was handed to them by league leading Harvard 206-80.

UP NEXT

On Friday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. Columbia will continue on the road to Annapolis, Md. to face the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy.
