Women's Swimming Earns Top 25 Ranking
In the latest release of the national college power rankings assembled by SwimSwam.com on Wednesday, Jan. 2, the Columbia women's swimming team jumped in to the poll for the first time this season at the No. 25 spot.
The Lions have posted several impressive performances this season, including a record-breaking showing from junior Kristina Parsons at the 2012 AT&T US Winter Nationals. In the 'C' finals of the 100 fly, Parsons swam a new program record of 54.62, breaking the record held by Allison Hobbs ('10CC) since 2009.
Senior Katie Meili has continued to have elite showings this season in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM events. The co-captain leads the Lions with nine individual wins on the season, including dominating performances in the 100 breast where she stands undefeated in Ivy League competition. Meili has posted strong times early this season posting a 59.7 in the 100 breast, a 2:12.7 in the 200 breast, and a 1:57.4 in the 200 IM.
Up next, Columbia will compete at Uris Pool for the first time this season as they host Bucknell on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m.
