Women’s Swimming & Diving  Conquers Cornell, 168-132

NEW YORK – The Columbia women’s swimming & diving team earned it’s first Ivy League win of the season Saturday, as the Lions beat Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., 168-132. 

The Lions had several strong swims by athletes across the classes.  Frst-year Alena Kluge  had a win in the 200 backstroke, as she came in first with a time of 2:05.60. Classmate Grace Senko also earned valuable points in the event as she took third in 2:07.02. 

It was two seniors who did well in the 200 breast for Columbia. Co-captain Mariele Dunn won the event, hitting the wall in 2:21.53, while Annie Perizzolo came in third place with a time of 2:22.70. 

First-year Aileen Smith won the 500 free, coming in at 5:05.99, while junior Isabelle Vandenbroucke made it 1-2 for the Lions, taking second in 5:06.67. 

Sophomore Katie Meili won the 200 IM in 2:008.15, and Kluge came in second just behind her at 2:08.71, helping to assure the team win. 

With the win, the Lions improve to 3-3 overall, and earn their first Ivy League win of the season, standing at 1-3 in dual meets in the conference.
