Women’s Swimming Competes at ECAC Championships

NEW YORK – Members of the Columbia women’s swimming team took part in the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa., this weekend. They finished 12th out of 22 teams, with 84 points. 

On Friday, the 200 free relay team of Bunge Okeyo, Erin Adams, Emily Brown and Blair Bloomquist finished second in the consolation final, placing tenth overall in 1:39.28. The Lions had two swimmers in the consolation final of the 500 free, as first-year Margaret D'Arcy finished 14th overall (5:05.25), and junior Erin Kampschmidt came in 16th overall (5:10.24). 

In the 50 free, sophomore Okeyo qualified for the championship final, where she placed eighth overall, in 24.29 seconds, while the 400 medley relay squad of Ashley Ramsden, Brown, D’Arcy and Alexandra Delaney came in 12th overall with a time of 4:06.26. 

Saturday saw several more Lions score points towards the team total. The 200 medley relay team of Ramsden, Brown, Delaney and Okeyo qualified for the consolation final, and finished 11th overall in 1:51.31. The Lions also had three athletes in consolation finals in other events. In the 400 IM, first-year Caitlin Jokubaitis came in 16th overall in 4:43.74, while Delaney finished 15th overall in the 100 fly, with a time of 58.75. Jokuaitis also had a 12th place finish in the 1650 free on Sunday, with a time of 17:41.82. D’Arcy had a 14th place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.16, while the 800 free relay team of Delaney, D’Arcy, Kampschmidt and Okeyo took eighth in the championship final, with a time of 7:50.86.
