Day One: Women's Swimming Competes AT US Winter Nationals
The quartet of Salena Huang, Katie Meili, Alena Kluge, and Mikaila Gaffey swam in the first trails of the 200 Free relay combining for a time of 1:35.40. Huang went on to compete in the 500 Free and teamates Meili and Kluge took their marks in the 200 IM.
With a 9th place overall finish time of 1:58.23 in the 200 IM, Meili earned the top seed heading into the 'B' finals of the event. She returned in the 'B' finals finish with a runner-up time of 1:57.42, defeating swimmers from big conference schools including Arizona, Texas and UCLA. For the first time this season, Meili finished under 2:00 and now stands ninth in the nation in the 200 IM.
The 400 medley relay also saw a couple of phenomanal individual performances by the Lions. Kristina Parsons swam the fastest 100 fly split in school history at 54:01 with the 'A' squad and Lexi Riggs hit the wall with a personal best of 56.6 on the back leg with the 'B' squad. The squad of Kluge, Meili, Parsons and Huang combined for an 11th place time of 3:43.12.
The Lions return for day two of competition on Friday, Nov. 30 with preliminaries to start at 10 a.m., followed by the finals at 6 p.m. A live webcast will follow all events for the duration of competition.
