Kyle Merber Named USTFCCCA Northeast Region Men's Track Athlete of Year

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Columbia senior Kyle Merber as the 2012 Northeast Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year on Monday.

At the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet on May 14, Merber set an American collegiate record in the 1,500 meters with time of 3:35.59 -- the fastest collegiate time in the nation, second-fastest in the U.S. and 15th-fastest in the world. The Dix Hills, N.Y. native was the Ivy League champion in the 1,500 meters and the 4x800 meter relay (setting an Ivy League record with 7:20.53) at the 2012 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships.

Merber, sophomore Harry McFann (men’s 800m) and first-year Nadia Eke (women’s triple jump) will represent Columbia at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 6-9 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
