Track & Field Competes At NYU Team Challenge On Friday

NEW YORK – The Columbia men and women's track & field teams will begin its first of three straight meets in New York City  competing in the NYU Team Challenge this Friday, Jan. 24 at the NY Armory.  The Lions will be joined by Army, Iona, Northridge, TCNJ, Kutztown, Monmouth, Montclair State, Wagner and hosts NYU in the 10-team field.

Field events are slated to begin along with the runs at 11:30 a.m., starting with the long jumps and the 60m hurdles. The final event scheduled is the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay. Meet results will be available at and following the competition.

The Columbia women are coming of a victory in its season opener at the annual Ivy League tri-meet tune-up against Dartmouth and Yale. The Lions posted nine top-finishes for a first-place tally of 72 points. Senior Marvellous Iheukwumere highlighted the day in the women’s sprints taking both the 60m dash (7.81) and the 200m dash (25.12).

The Lions remained true to its stapled dominance in the men’s middle-distance and distance events for a runner-up finish in the Ivy League tri-meet. Columbia took the top three spots in the men’s 1000m run with Brendon Fish leading the way at 2:27.61 First-year Rob Napolitano showed well in his first meet coming away with the victory in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:55.02. The quartet of Daniel Everett, Fish, Harrison Mcfann and John Gregorek also combined for a win the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:45.87.
