Gregorek & McFann Advance In Opening Round Of East Prelims
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a temporary weather delay at, members of the Columbia track and field team kicked-off opening day of the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships East Preliminary Round on Thursday, May 29.
John Gregorek began the day with a qualifying run in the men’s 1,500m run. Gregorek finished in third-place in the second heat with a time of 3:50.84 to advance to the quarterfinal round on Saturday, May 31 at 6:30 p.m.
Harrison McFann followed with another qualifying performance in the men’s 800m run. Mcfann clocked in with a time of 1:48.59 to grab a runner-up finish in the second heat to earn his spot in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m. Teammate Brendon Fish narrowly missed the cut with a fourth-place finish in the fourth heat, at 1:49.09, as the top three runners in each heat advanced.
A few Lions saw their capped their season on Thursday, including Olivia Sadler, Tim Cousins, Jacob Sienko, Jack Boyle, Trina Bills and Marvellous Iheukwumere. Sadler placed ninth in the second heat of the women’s 1,500m with a time of 4:25.44, while Cousins took a 12th –place finish in the third heat of the men’s 1,5000m with a time of 3:55.37.
In the 10,000m run, Sienko finished 15th overall with a time of 30:19.04. Despite a seventh-place finish in the final heat of the women’s 800m, Bills crossed the finish line in a program record time of 2:06.64. She surpassed her previous record of 2:06.74 set earlier this season.
Iheukwumere’s decorated career finished with a sixth-place finish in the third heat of the women’s 100m run with a time of 11.95. The senior garnered eight Ivy League titles throughout her career and holds Columbia all-time records in both the 60m and 100m sprints.
