Nadia Eke Representing Ghana In Impressive Fashion

NEW YORK – This summer, Columbia track & field rising senior Nadia Eke has competed around the world in the triple jump, representing her native country of Ghana. Eke was both the indoor and outdoor 2013 Ivy League triple champion and has continued to improve in world competitions such as the 19th African Athletics Championships and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Eke had an outstanding performance at the African Championships in Marrakech, Morroco this week, setting a new personal record in the triple jump.  With a leap of 13.40m, Eke captured a runner-up finish that qualifies her for the IAAF Athletics World Cup to be held in Marrakech next month. Only the top two performances from each continent are eligible in their respective events. Eke’s measure of 13.40m bested her previous personal best outdoor record of 13.22m and would surpass the currenty Ivy League record of 13.37m set in 2007.

Her elite showing in Marrakech comes just weeks after another impressive leap at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland. The event  wascomprised of 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 nations and territories that compete in 17 sports over 11 days. Eke qualified for the finals in the triple jump behind a Ghanaian national record leap of 13.14m and capped the Commonwealth Games with a 10th-place overall finish.
