2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships Preview
NEW YORK – Columbia track and field’s Daniel Everett, Mark Feigen, Harrison McFann, Mike Murphy and Waverly Neer will look to make their biggest mark this season on the national stage at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
The national championships will be streamed live from the University of Oregon this weekend. ESPN3/ESPNU will broadcast the majority of the meet, with supplementary webcasting on the Pac-12 Live Stream.

Wednesday, June 5 – (Men’s 800m Semifinal – 4:45p.m. PT)
For the second consecutive season, McFann has earned his place at the NCAA Championships after a qualifying finish in the men’s 800m in the East Regional Preliminary Round. McFann finished with a time of 1:49.32 in Heat 2 to grab the final qualifying time.
At 1:49.32, he enters Wednesday’s semifinal race with the 15th best seed time. The junior’s fastest time this season came at the George Mason Spring Invitational when he clocked in at 1:48.22, which would stand among the nation’s top ten in this event.
McFann will look to better his sixth place finish in Heat 2 of last year’s 800m semifinals. To advance to the 800m championship finals on Saturday, he must be one of the top two runners of the opening three heats or have the next two best times.

Thursday, June 6 – (Men’s 10,000m Final – 7:15p.m. PT)
To cap a stellar senior season, Mike Murphy will compete in his first career NCAA Championship finals in the men’s 10,000m run. The veteran distance runner posted an eighth place qualifying time of 30:00.54 in the semifinal round two weeks ago in Greensboro, N.C.
His qualifying time stands 10th best entering Thursday night’s event. Murphy’s top performance this season came at the Stanford Invitational, where he finished with a career-best time of 29:03.33.

Friday, June 7 – (Women’s 5,000m Final – 6:15p.m. PT)
In the East Preliminary Round, Neer competed in the women’s 5,000m run. Although she clocked in with a solid sixth-place time of 16:05.70 in the opening heat, her time stood 11th overall to push her to the Friday championship round.
The sophomore has battled back from injury to put together a solid outdoor season. After posting one of the best runs around the East region in the women’s 5,000m run with a time of 16:01.36 at the Mt. SAC Relays, Neer followed up by capturing the 2013 Ivy League title in the 5,000m with a time of 16:14.23.

Columbia teammates Everett and Feigen will both represent the Lions in the men’s 5,000m run. They both lined up in heat two of the semifinals and Everett led the way with a fourth place automatic qualifying finish with a time of 14:07.43. Feigen finished just paces behind him, grabbing the final automatic bid with a fifth place time of 14:08.70.
In a breakout sophomore season, Everett will look to add to his string of big-time performances. Earlier this season he highlighted the Lions’ trip to the Stanford Invitational by setting a new school record in the 5,000m with a time of 13:57.72. He followed with a runner-up finish at the 2013 Ivy League Championships to earn second team All-Ivy League honors.
Feigen found his stride in just the right time to qualify for the nation’s biggest stage. He led a dominating Columbia performance in the 5,000m run at the IC4A Outdoor Championships with a runner-up finish with his East Preliminary qualifying time of 14:00.63.
