HANOVER, N.H. – On Saturday March 1, the first Columbia title of the 2014 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships went to Nadia Eke. Eke captured the Ivy League crown in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.74m. On the men’s side, Tait Rutherford grabbed a victory in the 3000m run with a time 8:17.03 for his first Ivy League title.
Both Columbia men and women's track and field teams had solid showings on the first day of races as the men posted championship qualifiers in five events and the women in four events.
Marvellous Iheukwumere will return as the favorite in the 200m after crossing the line first in the prelims with a time of 24.97. Waverly Neer finished third overall in the 500m run with a time of16:23.65.
Harry Mcfann will be one of the top contenders in the 800m run after posting a runner-up prelims time of 1:52.21. The Lions will return for the final heats on Sunday. Tomorrow’s action begins at 11:30 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles and the final event will be the women's 4x400m relay at 3:50 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the final event at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday.
