NEW YORK – Several members of the Columbia women’s track & field team traveled to Starkville, Miss., to take part in the Mississippi State Jace Lacoste Invitational, Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16. The Lions had five first place finishes, and one new school record.

Junior Sharay Hale had a win in the women’s 200m dash, as she beat a field of 30 runners to come in first with a time of 23.83.  Her classmate Kyra Caldwell also had a top finish, as she won the 400m hurldles with a time of 1:01.26. 

The women’s 4x400m relay team of Caldwell, Yamira Bell, Laura Vogel and Hale also had a top finish, winning the event by a full three seconds, coming in at 3:40.88. 

The Lions had two first place finishes in the high jump, as junior Monique Roberts and first-year Tara Richmond both cleared 1.71m (5’7.25”).  And sophomore Uju Ofoche had an impressive performance in the long jump, as she hit 6.16m (20’2.5”), breaking her own school record of 6.10m in the event. 

Up next for the Lions is the Larry Ellis Invitational, taking place in Princeton, N.J., Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 23.
