FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Columbia track & field team had a plethora of outstanding performances on Saturday at George Mason’s Patriot Open Invitational.
The Lions had 11 marks that will qualify for regionals.
On the men’s side, senior Kyle Merber continued his strong outdoor season with a 1:49.74 to take fourth place in the 800m run. First-year Brendon Fish and sophomore Harry McFann were right on Merber’s heels clocking in at 1:49.80 and 1:49.98, respectively. In the 1,500m run, first-year Daniel Everett posted an impressive 3:43.80 time to take fifth place and his time was the second-fastest by a first-year in the nation this season. Sophomore John Gregorek (seventh, 3:44.26), senior Adam Behnke (eighth, 3:44.74) and junior Mark Feigen (10th, 3:45.01) also posted qualifying times in the 1,500m.
Columbia’s women’s distance runners had four times that stood out. In the 800m run, first-year Madeline Rathbun took fourth place with a time of 2:07.21. In the 1,500m run, junior Erin Gillingham took sixth place with a time of 4:24.65 and first-year Anne Carey (eighth, 4:26.19) and junior Clare Buck (10th, 4:26.65) were right behind her.
Columbia will next compete in Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitaitonal on April 20-21 and Auburn’s War Eagle Invitational on April 21.
