PHILADELPHIA – The Columbia men’s distance medley relay has been the highlight of the Lions’ first two days at the 118th Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

On Friday, the Lions’ men’s DMR squad of John Gregorek, Kevin Boyd, Harry McFann and Kyle Merber competed in the College Men’s Distance Medley Championship of America. The quartet ran a great race and took fifth with a time of 9:43.21. Gregorek (3:00.2) made strong push at the end of his 1,200m opening leg. Kevin Boyd (48.2) raced further towards the front of the pack in his 400m and Harry McFann (1:47.8) had a powerful finishing kick in the final stretch of his 800m before handing the baton to Kyle Merber. Merber (4:07.0) was first or second for the majority of his 1,600m anchor leg before the field went into a mad dash in the final 100m.

Columbia is slated to have three more relay teams compete in Championship of America events on Saturday. Merber, Adam Behnke, Daniel Everett and Mark Feigen will run in the College men’s 4xMile Championship of America at 1:25 p.m.

The Columbia squad of Erin Gillingham, Madeline Rathbun, Jennifer DeSouchet and Trina Bills will compete in the College Women’s 4x800 Championship of America at 4:10 p.m.

Brendon Fish, McFann, Liam Tansey and Connor Claflin will run in the College Men’s 4x800 Championship of America at 4:40 p.m.
