NEW YORK - Director of cross country and track field Willy Wood has announced that former University of Virginia standout Reuben Jones will join the staff as an assistant coach. Jones will work mainly with the jumps, short sprints and hurdles for the Lions.

Jones comes to Columbia following two seasons at Ivy League school Brown. He coached two athletes to the U.S. Junior National Championships and two of his athletes also qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Rounds.

Prior to his stint at Brown, Jones assisted with the sprint, jump and hurdle events at Coastal Carolina University. In 2010, he coached two Big South Conference record setting athletes in the high jump and the 200m.

Jones joined the Coastal Carolina staff after spending one season as a volunteer coach at his alma mater, the University of Virginia. During the 2009 outdoor season, the men's track and field team won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship for the first time in program history. With Jones' assistance, four athletes earned All-ACC honors and eight qualified for the NCAA preliminary rounds.

Prior to coaching, Jones was a four-time IC4A Champion for the Cavaliers. His times rank second in Virginia track and field history in the 60, 100 and 200 meters.

Jones is USATF Level II certified in the jumps. In 2011, he earned his Jumps Specialist Certification administered by the USTFCCCA.
