NEW YORK - The Columbia track & field team returned to the Armory on Saturday, Feb. 2 for another day of strong performances at the 2013 Armory Collegiate Invitational. After setting a school record in the men's distance medley relay in day one competition, the Lions continued to shine in the relay events on day two.
Columbia captured both the men and women's 4x800m relay championship heat titles to highlight the meet. For the men's team, the quartet of Brendon Fish, Harrison McFann, Connor Claflin, and Byron Jones combined for a time of 7:30.15 seconds to grab the victory. The winning squad for the women's team was Olivia Sadler, Emily Krasinski, Trina Bills and Madeline Rathbun, who clocked in at 8:50.55 seconds.
Erin Gillingham posted an impressive win in the women's 3,000m run championship heat. The senior crossed the line in a time of 9:37.55 seconds for the sole individual victory on the day for the Lions.
Both teams had several notable performances on the final day of competition including a runner-up finish in the women's New York 4x400m relay. The foursome of Parker, Taylor-Chase, Claudio and Rogers posted a second-place time of 3:49.81 seconds.
In the men's New York 4x400 relay, the Columbia squad of Kevin Boyd, Yelnats Calvin, Samuel Miner and Corey Hammond placed third with a time of 3:22.47 seconds. Daniel Everett ran well in the men's 3,000m championships taking fourth at 8:08.73 seconds. Teammate Mike Murphy finished just behind Everett in sixth place at 8:10.99 seconds. In the 800m run, Brendan Donley finished ninth in 1:54.65 seconds for the Lions while Casey Adams grabbed 11th place in the one mile run in 4:14.53 seconds.
Up next, Columbia will return to the Armory for a third straight weekend to compete in the Lafayette Winter Rider Games on Friday, Feb. 8.
