Gregorek Shines At Day One Of Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior John Gregorek, ran the nation’s eighth best time in the 3,000m steeplechase with a winning time of 8:52.85 to highlight the Columbia track & field team’s opening day at the 13th annual Sam Howell Memorial Invitational. The 3,0000m steeplechase posted two Lions in the top five with Joseph Kotran clocking in with a fifth place time of 19:07.72.

Columbia had a slew of solid performances in both the men and women’s distance events. In the men’s 10,000m run, Steven Iglehart crossed the line in 11th-place with a time of 30:11.22, while Byron Jones finished the 5,000m run with a time of 14:41.02 for 22nd-place in the 63 runner field.

On the women’s side, Mallory Anderson led the way in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase with a fourth-place time of 10:22.19. Chelsea Carrick also placed eighth in the event with a time of 10:38.95. In her first event this season, Waverly Neer grabbed ninth place in the women’s 1,500m run with a time of 4:31.91.

The Lions placed three runners in the top 15 of the women’s 5,000m run with Caroline Williams leading the way as runner-up at 16:36.25. Noelle Van Rysselberghe took tenth place at 16:56.28 and Aryn Foland finished in 14th-place at 17:16.14.

In the Friday field events, Joanna Koronios claimed fifth place overall with a throw of 42.84m in the women’s discus throw. Duncan Dickerson also placed 14th in the men’s discus throw with a measure of 43.04m.
