JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –With the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships East Preliminary Round in the books, three Columbia track & field athletes punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
John Gregorek put together an outstanding quarterfinals performance in the men’s 1500m on Saturday, May 31. Gregorek finished in first-place in the opening heat to punch his ticket to the NCAA National Championships. The senior crossed the line in a time of 3:45.27 to lead all runners.
In the women's 5000m run, Waverly Neer punched her ticket in an impressive fashion. Neer finished with an overall fourth-place time of 15:58.91 to advance, which earned a runner-up finish in her heat.
On Friday, May 30, Harrsion McFann earned his trip to Eugene in the men’s 800m quarterfinal. The top three in each heat plus the next three best times moved on to the semifinals. Despit a fourth-place finish in the second heat, McFann clocked in with a qualifying time of 1:48.15.
Nadia Eke capped a sensational junior season with a top-20 performance in the triple jump. The Ivy League champion posted a leap of 12.78m for 17-th-place overall. Daniel Everett posted a 16th-place overall finish in the men's 5000m run with a time of 14:16.67.
The 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will begin on Wednesday, June 11 - Saturday, June 14 in Eugene, Oregon.
