POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Columbia men's squash team will host Fordham and Haverford on Sunday, February 6 at 10 a.m. and noon in its final two home matches of the season. The team, ranked No. 20 in the country, currently sits at 8-3 this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia fell to No. 13 Middlebury 8-1 on Sunday, January 30. The Lions' Graham Miao had the lone win for Columbia at the No. 1 spot. Miao jumped out to a 2-0 lead, winning the first two games 11-5 and 13-11. His opponent, Val Quan, came back to take game three 11-8, but Miao narrowly edged Quan 12-10 in game four for the win.
WHERE WE RANK
The College Squash Association released its new rankings today and Columbia remains at the No. 20 spot. Entering their first season as a varsity team, the Lions began the year ranked No. 33 in the CSA Pre-Season rankings, but have quickly climbed throughout this season.
SCOUTING THE FORDS
Haverford enters the weekend sporting a 6-4 overall record. The Fords have won four of their last six matches and are coming off a 6-3 win against Cornell's club team. Zef Konst paces the Fords with seven wins this season, and is 2-0 at the No. 1 spot, and 5-3 at No. 3.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Fordham is 5-6 this season and is coming off a weekend sweep at the Siena Round Robin. The Rams defeated Bryant and Ithaca 7-1, and Siena 9-0. Earlier in the season, Fordham also defeated Vassar and Drexle both 5-4.
Sunday's matches against Fordham and Haverford mark the final home matches for Columbia this season. Come out to support the Lions! The match is being held at the StreetSquash facility at 40 West 116th Street. Fans can enter the venue at the main entrance located between 5th and Lenox Avenues on 115th Street.
Columbia will hit the road next week, taking on Vassar at 11 a.m. and Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday, February 12. This will be the final touch-up for the Lions prior to the Men's Nationals on February 25-27 in Cambridge, Mass.
