Women's Squash Wins Consolation Finals At 2012 CSA National Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In only its second season as a varsity program, the Columbia women's squash team ended the 2011-12 season on a high note. With a 6-3 win over Mount Holyoke on Sunday, February 26, the Lions have captured a 13th place national ranking behind their victory in the consolation final in the Kurtz Cup (B Division) of the 2012 CSA National Championships.

Columbia bounced back after an 8-1 loss to Williams in the first round to win back to back matches. An 8-1 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, February 25 earned the Lions a trip to the consolation finals. The 6-3 win over the Lyons in the consolation finals pushed 16th-ranked Columbia up three spots to a No. 13 ranking to finish the year.

"This season was tough because we are still building a program and we faced a lot of older and more experienced teams. That being said, the women on my team are highly analytical and were driven to improve their play at Nationals. We are evolving from being the underdog to being the confident and seasoned team. We are focusing on cultivating a tradition of pride and confidence, " said Kelsey Engman, Head Coach of Columbia Women's Squash.
