NEW YORK - The Columbia women's squash team played its first exhibitions of the 2011-12 season at the Ivy League scrimmages recently in New Haven, Conn. In the second time as a varsity team and third time in the last three years, Columbia competed well against some of the top teams in the nation.
Despite losing to Yale and Cornell 9-0, Columbia defeated Brown 5-4 in its third match of the day. "We took individual games off of a much stronger Cornell team, which was encouraging," head coach Kelsey Engman said.
Last season, Columbia finished its first varsity season 12-6 overall and moved up to the B Division at the Women's National Team Championship.
