Women's Squash Finishes Season With Loss To Princeton

NEW YORK - The Columbia women's squash team played their last match of the season in Street Squash on Sunday, Feb. 12. Columbia faced No. 4 Princeton in their final Ivy League matchup, falling 9-0 to the Tigers.

The Lions end their second season as a program at 5-8 overall and 0-5 on the Ivy League with notable wins over 19th-ranked Bowdoin, No. 22 Connecticut College, and a close battle with No. 9 Bates College.

"I would say one of the best moments of our season so far has been our close match with Bates " said Kelsey Engman, Head Coach of Columbia Women's Squash.

"The women on the team went in focused on their own games and driven to do well. They lost but they all played well and it was a glimpse of how well they can play when they come together as a team and work together" said Coach Engman.

This match also marked the last regular season outing for senior captain Liz Chu.  Chu posted a record of 21-26 in her career as Lion and was the backbone of a young Columbia women's squash team.

"As for Liz, she has had a tremendous impact on the program. She has played at the top of the ladder for her entire time at Columbia and is one of the reasons that other talented juniors were attracted to the program. Apart from that, she has been a great player and leader on the team. Liz was voted captain her junior and senior year. She is a great teammate, a great player, and it will be hard to lose her next year. Liz has great work ethic and the other women on the team follow her lead in practice and matches," Coach Engman raved.

Columbia women's squash continues to improve and strive for excellence. Coach Engman noted, "We are evolving from being the underdog to being the confident and seasoned team. We are focusing on cultivating a tradition of pride and confidence."
