NEW YORK - The Columbia women's squash team fell to No. 13 Bates on Saturday, January 22 in its home opener in front of an energetic crowd. Despite wins by Skylar Dickey and Katie Quan, the Lions ultimately fell 7-2 to the Bobcats, ending their seven-match win streak. Columbia slips to 7-2 overall while Bates evens its record to 8-8.

Quan and Dickey, both first-years, picked up 3-1 victories at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.  Quan won the first two games against Alison Bragg 11-6 and 13-11, but Bragg cut her deficit to one with an 11-9 win in game three.  Quan was dominant in the fourth game, winning 11-5 to pick up Columbia's first individual win of the day.

In the final match of the day, Dickey dropped her first game to Stephanie Cabot 9-11, before bouncing back to win three straight 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 for the win at No. 5.

Liz Chu put up a good fight against a talented Cheri-Ann Parris at No. 1. The junior co-captain fell behind 0-2 after two close games (8-11, 7-11) before winning game three 11-9. Parris came back to win game four 11-7 for the 3-1 win at the top spot.  Another first-year, Jenny Schroder, also had a close match at No. 7, falling to Rakey Drammeh 7-11, 6-11, 8-11.

Columbia (7-2) returns to action on Saturday, January 29 when it faces Vassar and Northeastern in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
