NEW YORK - The Columbia women's squash team will play three matches this weekend, including two in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. against Vassar and Northeastern on Saturday, January 29. The team will return home to host Middlebury on Sunday, January 30 at 6 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia saw its seven-match win streak end on January 21 when it lost to No.
13 Bates, 7-2. First-years Skylar
Dickey and Katie Quan each had individual wins for the Lions, as Dickey
defeated Alison Bragg 3-1 at No. 4 and Quan defeated Stephanie Cabot 3-1 at No.
5.
MAKING MOVES
After winning seven straight matches, the Columbia women's squash team moved up
in the latest team rankings published by the College Squash Association. The Lions were previously ranked at No.
17 nationally, but bumped up to No. 14 in the rankings released on January 24.
HOME SWEET HOME
Columbia will compete at the StreetSquash facility located at 40 West 116th
street. Fans can enter the venue
at the main entrance located between 5th and Lenox Avenues on 115th Street.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The host school, Vassar, is 2-4 this season, earning wins against Haverford and
Smith. Most recently, the Brewers
suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 setback to No. 20 Colby. Northeastern is 1-7 overall this season, picking up a 5-4 win
against Haverford back in November. No.
11 Middlebury is 11-3 this season, with eight of those wins coming by 9-0 scores. The Panthers have only lost to No. 4
Princeton, No. 10 Brown and No. 13 Bates.
LOOKING AHEAD
In its final home match of the season, both the Columbia men's and women's
teams will host Haverford on Sunday, February 6 at 1 p.m. The Lions will travel back to
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. the following weekend for the Vassar Round Robin for its
final tune up before Nationals.
