Women's Squash Falls to No. 11 Williams at Women's National Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 14 Columbia women's squash team dropped its first match at the 2011 Women's National Championships, falling 6-3 to No. 11 Williams College on Friday, February 18.

Skylar Dickey defeated Alyssa Northop at the No. 4 spot. The first-year won the first game 11-7, but dropped game two 10-12. Dickey went on to win the next two games 11-9 and 11-5 for the victory.

Her classmate Annie Tickell also won a 3-1 match at No. 5.  Tickell won the first game 12-10 before dropping game two 6-11.  She came back to win 12-10 and 11-4 over Hannah Kaemmer to win the match.

Jenny Schroder, also a first-year, won an exciting 3-2 battle at No. 7 over Eliana Saltzman.  Schroder jumped out to a 2-0 lead after defeating Saltzman 11-8 and 12-10, but her opponent responded with back-to-back wins 11-2 and 11-6 to knot the match at 2-2.  In the decisive game five, it was Schroder who came out on top with an 11-9 win.

Columbia will compete against Middlebury on Saturday, February 19 at 4:30 p.m.
