Three Lions Win Titles at The Hyder Trophy Tournament
Engman also took home top honors after winning the women's main east bracket. Top-seeded Engman won her first three matches in three-straight games over Jiha Min, Isabelle Dowling and Shirin Kauffman to advance to the finals. It was a battle of the top two seeds as Engman took on Juliana Lilien, and despite dropping the first game, Engman came back to win the next three to clinch the title.
On the men's side, head coach Swanepoel had an outstanding tournament, winning the 6.0 bracket in addition to the Edwin H. Bigelow Cup for outstanding performance in competition. Top-seeded Swanepoel defeated second-seeded Tom Mullaney 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8) to win the title after defeating Matt Davis and Faraz Khan to advance to the finals.
Miao, a rising junior also placed first after winning the men's 5.5 bracket. Entering the tournament as the sixth-seed, Miao defeated Kyle Gens, before back-to-back upsets over third-seeded Muhammad Ali and second-seeded Dev Bhatty to advance to the finals. It was there that Miao defeated Samuel Goldberg 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 5-11, 11-2) to win the title.
